Our Story

Education has always been one of the main thrust areas of the Birla family and every succeeding generation has contributed significantly towards this goal for over 70 years.

With an aim to impart the best of Western education, combined with the highest ideals of Indian philosophy, a group of schools was started in Kolkata by Late Shri. Basant Kumar Birla and his wife, Late Dr. Smt. Sarala Birla, with a focus on the education of the girl child.

Brainchild of Late Smt. Manjushree Khaitan, Ashok Hall Girls’ Residential School was founded in 1993 by Late Shri. B. K. Birla and Dr. Smt. Sarala Birla to nurture and empower young girls to achieve their potential by providing diverse learning opportunities in a congenial and inspiring environment.

Nestled in the lap of Kumaon’s lush hills with an impressive view of the snow-clad Himalayas, the school resides in the picturesque village of Majkhali, 12 km from the cosmopolitan cantonment town of Ranikhet. The school’s serene 25-acre campus is enticing and enriching, allowing young minds to flourish without any distractions.

For over 30 years, the school has proudly witnessed its students, Hallites, become visionary leaders, creative thinkers and empathetic changemakers leading strong, self-sustaining, solidary communities around them with integrity. The success of its students is a true testament to the morals, values and discipline imbibed in them by the institution.
